& AMERICAN IN PARIS

Saltburn - Emerald Fennell

We are officially at 100 subscribers. 105 subscribers to be exact. This is very exciting for me. Look, not to toot my own horn here, but I had over 1,000 subscribers on Instagram before I deactivated my account and got to 100 fairly quickly on X. These newsletters are far different than that.

I’ve performed in front of thousands of audience members, this newsletter is still so very different from that.

100 subscribers to a newsletter are people who wish to hear from me each week. Then of course for my premium subscribers… 3x weekly!?

I’m baffled.

Thank you all so very much for joining me on this journey and I can’t wait to continue onward. We will be continuing with our regular message next week, but for now, let me explain what I’m working on!

AMERICAN IN PARIS

Today marks the first day of rehearsals for me stepping into this show as Jerry Mulligan, the Gene Kelly track in the movie. I’m excited to begin. We did have an extra little dance rehearsal the week prior and it’s already starting to feel pretty good, mostly, just to be working.

It really isn’t that long ago that I was working for the same theater in A Chorus Line, but it feels like it’s been forever since I was working on my craft. Stepping back into a role, even though it’s singing and dialogue with the book in our hands awakens the artist archetype in me, and feeds my soul in a way that isn’t financial. I know that what I’m working on is a connection to this very soul, one that I tend to ground maybe too much while I’m hunkering down in restaurant mode.

One thing I will say is I’m thankful for my base level of fitness and ability. I realize that I’m really lucky to be healthy as I am, and I notice that having a regular movement practice helps me to transfer into different circumstances whenever needed. I would be naive to say that I can transfer over perfectly, but I can at least feign my confidence as a dancer. I have a week to work on form which isn’t a long time, but I would be in a different place if I hadn’t been taking care of myself for so long.

We are working with the Mansfield Ohio community to put this wonderful show in front of a symphony orchestra, a well-deserving score to be played by incredible musicians, written by George Gershwin. Now it’s my job to get to work. I don’t know where most of you are located but if you have an opportunity come see the performance! tickets are here!
